The Story of Eleanor's

Alison Lucien, Owner Alison knows her accessories.  An alumna of Norma Kamali, Steve Madden, and Saks Fifth Avenue, with ten years of fashion-industry experience behind her, she understands that the right bag or earrings can take a vintage dress from kitsch to cool. And the same goes for bikes. She rode her vintage Schwinn—which she brought all the way from her Ohio hometown—to work for years, but she couldn’t find high-quality, fashionable accessories to add style to her ride. Lost in a sea of unflattering spandex bike shorts, tired of heavy metal racks and baskets, she was inspired to start…
Eleanor’s - Stylish bicycle accessories for ladies.  Launched in April 2012, she named her new business after her and her husband Dustin’s grandmas—ladies who shared a moniker and an enthusiasm for bicycling.  Online, you’ll find unique, versatile items for fashion-savvy bikers. Helmets that are cute, not clunky. Clothes you can bike to a party in and still be the best-dressed person there.  Gear that says “chic French girl”—not “Tour de France.” Visit Eleanor’s and you’ll also likely meet the shop mascot…
Birdie, The Shop Dog. A Feist mix rescued from North Carolina her customer-service skills are unsurpassed as she’s always eager to greet visitors (especially those with treats). This Southern gal is fond of the quiet life. She dislikes house music and motorcycles, and spends her free time chewing Dustin’s socks and snoozing under Alison’s chair in the shop. Follow her on twitter@thestoredog.
Christina, Social Media Coordinator. California girl Christina bicycled her way through the hills of San Francisco to the flat lands of Brooklyn collecting her adventures on her blog citygirlrides.com. A graduate from the University of California, Berkeley studying Urban Development in Africa, Christina researched how communities in developing cities are creating their own opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable living. Between bicycling, blogging, and slinging coffee, she spends her days taking her dog Sherlock on adventures and learning how to code.
Rachel, Guest Music Blogger. Rachel grew up mostly in Connecticut and went to Trinity College, where she studied art history, architecture and French. Alongside academic studies both at home and abroad, Rachel has spent a good deal of time booking concerts and promoting live music. She loves all things mid-century modern and has a penchant for puns (both good and bad, unfortunately) and in between blogging about biking and bike accessories, you can catch her riding her bike to McCarren Park, hanging out at Pies 'n' Thighs, or hightailing it to a music festival.
Emily, Website Illustrator. Emily was sadly the last in her class to learn to ride a bike without training wheels. She’d like to lay blame to growing up on a bumpy dirt road out in the woods of New Hampshire. Studying illustration at Art Institute of Boston she was able to revisit her love of fairytales through children’s book illustrations. Living in Hawaii and southern California confirmed her need for all 4 seasons and NYC has since been a perfect fit. She’s even been able to meet her favorite artist Joe Sorren. She is more than happy to be outside all day whether it’s in the woods or in the urban jungle working the markets for Eleanor's.
Vanessa, Copywriter. DC-native Vanessa M grew up biking along the Potomac River, often with her faithful Labrador, Comet, in tow. After 24 years, she traded the national monuments for skyscrapers and moved to NYC to work in the fashion industry. She admits that as a ten-year-old, she owned multicolor polka-dotted bike shorts that she thought were pretty rad—but she has since seen the error of her ways, and is that much more excited to be a part of the Eleanor's team.
Simona, Lifestyle Photographer. Simona was born in Brasov, Romaniaand now lives in Astoria, Queens. As the owner of Rada Marin Photography, she loves to take photos that have a "feeling” rather than the "perfect look" according to the rules of photography. She likes to use expired film and paper when she develop photos at home since it adds the element of surprise. She is also becoming a certified astrologer.
Kathryn, Intern. Kathryn attends American University in D.C. Kathryn loves to ride her bicycle around the DC area. Her favorite place to ride a bike is Rock Creek Park in Maryland where she picnic with friends. When she’s not riding around, she loves to draw, watch anything and everything with Audrey Hepburn, and listen to vinyls on her vintage Marantz stereo receiver.
